Gracie’s older sister Sarah, a frequent supporter of Epilepsy education, is attending Florida International University in the College of Architecture and the Arts. This fall she had an amazing opportunity to increase awareness for Epilepsy. Sarah participated in a semester-long project to vocally and proactively support a cause or charity of her choice. She chose to represent the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida. The outstanding team consisted of Manuel Calderon, Sarah Romero, Isle Jerez, Allison Novo, Elianis Nieves (left to right). Various speeches were presented in the advanced public speaking course including persuasive, informative, and budget proposal speeches which culminated in a competitive event at the FIU MMC campus. Various worthy causes and charities were represented as the students competed for theirs to be the recipient of a sizable donation by an anonymous donor.
Marisol Valdes (back row) of the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida was in attendance as the presentations were given. She expressed her gratitude for this excellent opportunity to increase Epilepsy awareness in the college community. Gracie (front row) also attended the presentation and very much enjoyed the “preview” into college life.
UPDATE, January 2015: As a result of the team’s efforts, the anonymous benefactor has donated a check in the amount of $2,500.00 to the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida!
